HP Pavilion Elite HPE-470f Review

December 10, 2010 HP Comments

HP has decided things up in a big way with their latest Pavilion Elite desktop. Earlier incarnations of the system usually have around the Intel Core i7 processors, which have been built to offer an extremely high performance with four cores. The HPE-470F to change this by switching to the AMD Athlon X6 1090T six core processor. The additional two cores, the system an advantage in certain applications that use the additional cores or just be possible only for heavily multi-tasking. More single-threaded applications like games though, it fall below what could reach the older Core i7-based systems. The processor is designed to help alleviate with 8GB of DDR3 memory any slowing of running multiple applications.

For hard disk sizes continue to grow, HP can upgrade the hard drive to a respectable 1.5 terabyte drive included. This should be enough space for applications, data and media files. The drive comes with a variable spin rate-drive that uses less energy, but provides a bit less power than conventional drives 7200th HP is committed to Blu-ray combo drive supports allows the desktop to count double as a Blu-ray high-definition video platform. The drive also supports writing or listen to CDs or DVDs.

The graphics are definitely not the strongest aspect of the Pavilion Elite HPE-470F. This system is really not designed to be a gaming system, so that might not be a problem. It is with an ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card, a decent budget-oriented video card that can handle gaming up to 1920×1200, but 1680×1050 only come for more sophisticated games will. This hope, the graphics upgrade will find that the system only comes with a single graphics card slot that a CrossFire configuration prevented. The power supply can not even with some of the most demanding high-end cards on the market.

As with previous version of the Pavilion Elite sets the HPE-470F an 802.11a/g/n wireless network card. This makes the integration of the desktop into an existing Wi-Fi network extremely simple. It’s nice to see that HP also an adapter that the 5-GHz version can take advantage of 802.11n and 802.11a for higher-speed networking in a less crowded wireless spectrum.

While HP does a good job, including a wide range of application software with their computers, they also include a large amount of applications that trail software clutter on the desktop and the start-up of the operating system. This leads to poor performance and boot times, as these applications are loaded. They can be removed after purchase, but it is a nuisance.

Conclusion

HP has grown to be the target of a strong overall performance from his series Pavilion Elite very much with the HPE-470F. It uses a six-core AMD processor, it does not work good at multitasking and processor-intensive tasks such as desktop video. The disadvantage is that it is not so good for games, but that’s not really what it is designed. Additional features such as Blu-ray and wireless networks are very useful. It would be pretty easy to see, HP tends to ease some of the preinstalled software, the disorder of the system.

HP Pavilion Elite e9260f Review

November 19, 2010 HP Comments

You will find the Pavilion Elite e9260f sold at Amazon, with front-line specifications are pretty impressive for a mainstream rig. The e9260f is an Intel Core i5-750 CPU clocked at 2.66 GHz to build whopping 8GB of fast DDR3 RAM support. If you are a serious player, leaves the Nvidia GeForce GT desired to 230 video card a little, but when you play content on demanding games at medium resolutions, without any eye candy enabled, it is passable, though the Dell Inspiron 8000 GeForce GTX 260 has more gaming muscle. The HP system graphics card has an HDMI port and DVI, so those who have their PC will be content to an HDTV connection. The 8 GB of RAM should suffice for most users, but you can top of the motherboard with 16 GB if you are willing to replace the four 2GB RAM modules that are installed are.

HP Pavilion Elite e9260f Review

The Sports e9260f two vacant PCI Express (PCIe) x1 slots, an unused 5.25-inch bay and one 3.5-inch bay. Additional space in the housing is occupied by a shaft to accept HP’s own Personal Media Drive USB hard drives. A Wi-Fi card supports 802.11a/b/g/n occupies one of the PCIe slots, and you can remove it easily for more expansion space, if you want to connect via a cable to the pavilions Gigabit Ethernet port. The two free SATA ports also limits internal drive expansion, although the system 1TB hard drive should keep most users happy for a while.

The case looks nice enough, with glossy black finish and silver trim, but we have seen slight variations on the case of HP back to mid-2007 with the HP Pavilion Elite m9000t. Looking at the smooth chassis we have lately seen from the above line and Dell Studio Slim offers from Acer, the HP Pavilion Elite dated feel to start tower.

Nevertheless, a great tower has its advantages. You will receive a hefty number of USB 2.0 ports on the Pavilion Elite e9260f, with six in the back and three in the front. We find a quibble with the placement of the couple on the upper left-hand side of the front panel, next to the 15-format flash card reader. Sitting only a fraction of an inch above the optical drive, plugging in cables is something disturbing here, probably with the optical drive door. could prevent even a bulky novelty USB flash drive into the bottom port of the door. It’s not a big problem if the number of different USB ports, but you want to mind what you put here.

We also want HP had taken a cue from the Dell Inspiron 8000 and Gateway DX4820 and put a few convenient USB ports on the top of the Pavilion Elite case for easy charging of mobile phones and media players. The HP case, the tray on top, but it lacks USB ports are handy. And much like its older cousin, the HP Pavilion Elite e9120f, the function is not e9260f all PS/2 ports for older peripherals.

HP Pavilion Elite e9260f Review

In our productivity tests led the Pavilion Elite e9260f excellent for the price. On our CPU-taxing Cinebench 10 test achieved the e9260f 14 073, which is a bit on the Dell XPS 8000, which reached a mark of 13 653. In our iTunes encoding test where we convert 11 songs from MP3 to AAC format, took the e9260f 2 minutes and 42 seconds, to complete the task. The Inspiron 8000, crossed the finish line back a little, by 3 minutes and 10 seconds.

The Studio XPS 8000 held in close continuity with the Pavilion Elite e9260f in our Windows Media Encoder test, however, which it completed in 2 minutes and 54 seconds, seven seconds slower than the HP machine. And runs our entire operation of PC performance, PCMark Vantage produced, also predicted similar results: for the Pavilion Elite 8329, compared with the Studio XPS 8000 8170. Neither the other PC blew out of the water in one of these tests, the small surprise, considering that both sports the same CPU and memory size.

In terms of gaming performance, the Pavilion Elite e9260f handle older tracks quite well, but it struggles with newer, if all the eye candy is turned on. We started our game tests with DirectX 9 Company of Heroes. The e9260f has hit an impressive 119 frames per second (fps) at 1,280 x 1,024, but the Dell Inspiron 8000 portable, screaming 213fps at the same resolution. The Dell beat the HP in our Far Cry 2 tests, but by less margins. In DirectX 9 with a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050, the HP expressed 20.1fps, while the Inspiron 8000 was racing through it at 50fps.

HP Pavilion Elite e9260f Review

The results were similar in DirectX 10 test of Far Cry 2 at 1,680 x1, 050 Dell, 51.1 fps, and HP, 25fps. What is clear, the Pavilion Elite e9260f GeForce GTX 230 graphics card is a decent middle-of-the-road acceleration, but it certainly is not for high-end gaming. That is, turn the eye-candy settings and resolution down a bit, and you are probably playable frame rates in today’s games to see. And if you have more computing power (and have more money available), which has recently revised HP Pavilion Elite HPE-170T has an Intel Core i7 CPU and crave a GeForce GTX 260 graphics card.

If you do not do much gaming on plan to offer you find less expensive systems, the rapid productivity. But the Pavilion Elite e9260f offers a decent mix of midrange gaming performance and quickness with other PC tasks, making it a good family PC or a capable home-office workhorse with enough graphics power to keep you entertained during downtime.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-235f Review

November 18, 2010 HP Comments

Desktops in the mainstream PC category, are generally designed to meet the general home and business computing. While lacking the raw muscle power of systems in the performance PC category, they deliver strong performance without breaking the bank, and usually they try to scratch the itch, the high-definition media. Priced at $ 999.99 (as of November 2010), the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-235f packs a six-core AMD processor and delivers performance in a position at a fairly reasonable price.

Powered by a 2.6 GHz Athlon X6 1035T-processor, 8 GB RAM and a 1 TB hard drive, earned the HPE-235f a WorldBench 6 points 114 – a strong result, but at the lower end of the category. Gaming performance was a bit disappointing, too. The HPE-235f ATI Radeon HD 5570 graphics card is not playable frame rates at all resolutions of our Dirt to produce 2 benchmark. On our benchmark Unreal Tournament 3, it managed a frame rate of 25.6 frames per second (at 2560 x 1600 resolution and highest quality). Once we selected the resolution to 1920 of 1200, ran Unreal Tournament 3 on a respectable 43.4 fps.

Monitor not included!

Other machines have performed better. This enabled the Dell Inspiron 7100, equipped with an ATI Radeon 5870, a frame rate of 88 fps and deserves a slightly higher WorldBench 6 score of 120 The Dell is also slightly more expensive, though, so keep that in mind when comparing the two.

The HPE-235f is placed in the standard HP drivers – it is quite literally a cut-down twin of the company’s Pavilion Elite HPE 390T-performance desktop. Although it is a bit edgy and clear,’s ports and the like are easily accessible. A bucket on the top provides a handy place to rest your gadgets tend, however competitive systems to include a USB port or two on this site, so that the benefits of the space.

On the front of the case is the Blu-ray player/DVD burner combo drive and three USB ports (two on the multi-format card reader and a hidden behind a panel with the microphone and headphone jacks on the bottom left side). Six more USB ports are on the back (for a total of nine), in addition to 7.1 channel and optical audio outputs, a FireWire port and a Gigabit Ethernet port. The PC also offers 802.11n Wi-Fi if you want, cut the cable clutter. The ATI Radeon HD 5570 graphics card offers a DisplayPort port, a HDMI port and a DVI port.

You have to break out your screwdriver, if you want to tinker inside the machine. It has some room for adding some additional components (a second hard drive or other 5.25-inch drive), but you have to wrestle the cable into a semblance of order to get there. The system also features a pair of open PCIe x1 slots, but the insertion of a larger graphics card will be a challenge – the 300W power supply is not much room for expansion, either.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-235f Review

The included keyboard and mouse are not particularly interesting. Although the keyboard has some media-keyboard shortcuts both input devices are wired, and otherwise generally. Both are convenient to use, but if you are an advocate for additional functionality of your peripherals, you will want to invest in a number of its own.

The HPE-235f comes with some HP-branded bit software. HP Total Care Advisor will inform you about your PC’s interior, driver and software updates, monitoring and control of data backup and technical support. It’s just a front-end tasks that handles Windows 7 and applications natively, but it is a useful tool if you are familiar with some of the obscure elements of your PC.

HP MediaSmart software provides media playback and photo browsing applications, similar to how the software if the company All-in-one machines like the TouchSmart 600 Quad – sans touch functionality, of course. The HPE-235f sport and CyberLink software for the use of the Blu-ray drive and Microsoft Works 9 productivity software.

Although the limited room for improvement is a sore point, it is a common handicap for machines outside of the service class from the larger PC manufacturers. It looks like the HP Pavilion Elite HPE-235f best for a user who is probably not much to do upgrade or enthusiast-level gaming, but want a machine that can hit through high definition media without skipping a churn suitable. If you’re in the mood for something a little meatier, Dell Inspiron 7100 may cost slightly more, but it closes the gap by packing in a better graphics performance and increased six-core AMD processor.

HP Pavilion Elite m9550f Review

October 25, 2010 HP Comments

Is HP m9550f Pavilion Elite the latest in a long line of high-end multimedia systems from HP, and unfortunately, although previous systems, our appreciation and honor won, has come the m9550f about as competent yet unspectacular . To stick with the musical analogy is the m9550f as the 1970s Elvis is still quite entertaining and powerful, but largely to the bare minimum a good reputation and honor, what once was.

HP Pavilion Elite m9550f Review

The m9550f case is the same as the m9040n which we saw back in 2007. Though dated, it is fully functional to hold with a rubber cover on the top on your MP3 player, external hard drive or a digital camera during the synchronization sessions. What’s more, it still has the same excellent Personal Media Drive and Pocket Media Drive bays. Both of you can use HP cartridges of the hard drive to increasing the installed 1 TB storage in the system to another to 1.5TB (a 1TB Personal Media Drive 500GB plus a Pocket Media Drive, the maximum current capacity).

The features in both m9550f back one step forward and one step. There is a newer Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 processor (instead of the older Q6600 in its predecessor, the Elite m9400t), 8 GB DDR2 memory (which you will probably need as a home user), a 1 TB hard drive, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and an all-powerful midrange ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. All these components are improvements over those we saw in the m9400t. However, adding these features and keep the price similar to the HP m9400t had omitted something. In contrast to the m9400t lacks a Blu-ray drive m9550f (no HD movies from Netflix or Blockbuster) and an ATSC TV tuner (no over-the-air high-definition).

Like all HP Pavilion PCs, has a load of crapware on m9550f. When I am m9400t, the extra multimedia-oriented hardware to the points that were lost looking for crapware. This is not the case with the m9550f. The good old Microsoft Office 2007 60-day trial version is there, like a Norton Internet Security 60-day trial version (which came m9400t with 15 months), nine desktop drive icons for things like eBay and ads for Juno and NetZero dial-up ISP – which does not make sense, since the m9550f lacks a modem.

HP Pavilion Elite m9550f Review

Another nit to pick is that the chassis packed to the gills, so that only one PCI slot and one PCIe x1 slot free. The interior is chaotic, with wires for the motherboard, and most free space. I do not expect hand-wires in a $ 1,200 custom system passed, but even at that, it’s pretty stubborn in it. Fortunately, you have some reasons to open the chassis, since hard drives can be plugged into the Media Drive bays.

The system is decent multimedia performance. The m9550f finished the Windows Media Encoder test in 43 seconds, comes in a good bit below the 1-minute average for a multimedia system. It was also able to test in Photoshop CS4 1:33, good for a complete high-end multimedia system. The current Editors’ Choice Dell XPS 435 completed the same tasks in 36 seconds and 1:12, respectively. The m9550f’s 3D performance is mediocre-45 frames per second (fps) at a resolution of 1,280 by 1,024 is too bumpy smooth to play Crysis, although the 55 fps who scored m9550f on World in Conflict with the same resolution playable. Both games are unplayable with 1,920 to 1,200, but that’s okay, the system is multimedia-oriented, not a gaming rig. If you want to play games on this system, you must use a modest resolution.

The m9550f more capable than the cheaper systems like Acer Aspire X1700-U3700A and the Gateway LX6200-01 and is less powerful than the total of more expensive Dell XPS 435th Where is the m9550f is really short compared to its predecessor. The m9400t had a couple of inferior components (less memory, slower processor), but had a better bang for the buck with other functions such as Blu-ray and the 15-month subscription to Norton. What are crapware, the Acer and Gateway also owe too much, but this is a case of Dell avoids. For these difficult times, I would recommend getting a less expensive system such as the Acer if you do not need 3D (or the gateway if you want), or stood in for the Dell if you high-end features like Blu-ray need and 3D.

The HP Pavilion Elite m9550f is a competent multimedia PC to bring that people, when they already HP Personal Media Drive or Pocket, but it is ultimately less compelling than other options. Worse, it’s a step backwards from its predecessor. The Elite line is just treading water at this point, it’s up to HP to update the line to keep it important. Although the m9550f the basic hardware is solid, does not have its new features make up for that they were removed.

The HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250F is primarily a small update to the previous model HPE-150f. Many of the basic functions remain exactly the same as in the last model. This includes the Intel Core i7-860 quad-core processor, which allows a large amount of power. HP combines this with 8GB of DDR3 memory for the system to run multiple applications without fear of slowing down.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250F Desktop PC Review

One of the major upgrades from the previous model, the HPE-250F is a Blu-ray compatible optical drive. This allows the system to high definition Blu-ray movies makes it a great choice for someone who wishes he, too, as a home entertainment center, double-play. The drive can also burn recording and playback of CDs and DVDs, and labels directly onto LightScribe-compatible media. A one-terabyte hard drive provides plenty of space for applications, data and media.

The other big switch from HP with the HPE-250F is the graphics system. So far, the company used a mediocre NVIDIA graphics card. This version of the system comes with a DirectX 11-compatible ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. Thus, the system for PC gaming can be used up to the resolution of 1920×1200 quite well with many modern games. The upgrade also requires that the power to the system from the previous model 300W can be upgraded to support the new graphics card.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-250F Desktop PC Review

While the new graphics card is a welcome addition for those who want to use it for PC games, there are still some limitations. The system does not have a second PCI Express graphics card slot for the creation of a crossfire setup for extra power. In fact, there is very little space inside the system for upgrades. All memory slots are used and there is no available expansion slots. This should not be a problem for many people like the performance and features, the system can run for many years.

HP continues to include their wireless networks in their Pavilion Elite systems. It uses the 802.11n networking allows the fastest wireless networking solutions. This allows users to bring the system as good as anywhere in the houses, when used with a wireless network. Once again, it makes it easy to integrate the PC into a home theater environment.

Overall, the changes to the HPE-250F a big step from the previous HPE-150f-model and makes the system much more on par with the original Core i7-900 Series Pavilion Elite models released over a year ago.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-270F Review

September 14, 2010 HP Comments

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-270F not stray too far from the earlier versions, and instead takes a few changes to the system up to date. This includes a minor speed bump from the previous Core i7-920 quad-core processor, the Core i7-930. He still uses the Intel X58 chipset and Socket 1366 processors with their support for triple-channel memory configurations. HP has decided to install four 2GB DDR3 memory modules for a total of 8 GB of RAM. This provides a smooth experience, but it falls a little short, which could achieve a triple-channel setup.

Storage functions of the HPE-270F is a step of many other performance desktops. The one terabyte drive is not very big these days drives with twice as big, but it is a fairly typical size for this price range. What is really nice is the Blu-ray combo drive. This allows the system to make the playback of Blu-ray movies is a good choice for those who have it twice as an entertainment center. The drive also has the ability to play back or record from CDs or DVDs and burn labels directly onto LightScribe-compatible media.

The nice thing also that HP has with the HPE-270F include a wireless LAN adapter. With the rise of Wi-Fi Home Networking, which makes it very easy on the desktop in a home location and have it to tie into an existing wireless network. The adapter fully supports the 802.11a/g/n wireless standards including 802.11a and 802.11n 5GHz spectrum.

HP Pavilion Elite HPE-270F Review

HP has developed from the NVIDIA graphics product line, the ATI Radeon HD 5770 card with Direct X 11 capabilities postponed. The card itself also leads to 3D gaming handling up to 1920×1200 resolution but without too many filters, some of the intense games. The hope of upgrading the system to a second card for a CrossFire configuration to run to be disappointed by the relatively low wattage power supply that probably can not support a second card. Even if you installed to support a second card, a dual-slot graphics card from the WLAN card in the slot right next to it are blocked.
