We can consumers a challenging game. We want more and more powerful setup in ever smaller packages, and they must be less than the previous generation to cost products. As for the first time we saw the mesh Cute, we thought it might be the answer for many people’s prayers. After all, it was a fully functional and relatively powerful desktop PC with TV tuner and Blu-ray crammed into a 300 x 300 x 165mm case. Unfortunately it was too heavy, loud, somewhat cheap-looking and suffered from build quality issues. If Dell Inspiron Zino HD, which would have to be nice?

Not with the vanilla Inspiron Zino, the Atom-based desktop that does not have the power to deal with some everyday tasks or even HD video is to be a proper desktop computer HD Zino confused. In fact, although CPU and GPU options are somewhat limited, you can configure one with up to 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive.
Getting back to the Zino Cute VS HD comparison, by looks alone, the Dell is the clear winner. In fact, aside from the Apple Mac mini is pretty much the most attractive non-nuclear desktop PC, we have laid eyes on. It measures a diminutive 197 x 197 x 85mm and weighs only 1.6 kg. Its gentle curves and symmetry properly integrated white backlit power button to a machine that would not look out of place contribute to a designer desktop or under a television set for some great, and it certainly is much nicer than the Netter. Also you will see any disfiguring ventilation openings (apart from the only fan on the back) as they are cleverly hidden in the slightly raised base.

As with most of the popular Consumer Dell laptop and some desktop lines Zino HD’s looks are also highly customizable with a veritable plethora of colors and design choices for his top. These include piano black in our sample, blue, green, orange, pink, purple and red and Horizonte del Infinito, Green Dot and Red Swirl. The latter, an organic pattern of various shades of red on a white background is my first choice, but it should be something for everyone. The upper “cap” is a snap to replace, as it goes simply by pressing a button on the chassis back and just click back.
Unfortunately, the glossy surface is loves fingerprints and dust as ever and scratches easily, but this is less of a problem on a computer, you do not need to touch often compared to the laptop, we often complain about. Build quality is decent, though not exactly the strongest around, so this system will need to be treated with some care. The removable top turns a bit, but not like the chassis, for obvious weaknesses.

At the Zino HD front, we have a trade-loading slimline Blu-ray drive, although the base model is equipped with a DVD burner (the first is a 140 upgrade). While many high-end “designer” machines for the slot-loading drives instead opt Dell election offers more flexibility – Slot-loading drives can not use mini-or irregularly shaped discs – get in less chance for dust to and is cheaper, thus keeping the overall costs low.
As far as connectivity goes, the Zino HD offers almost everything you want. On the front is a headphone jack, two USB ports and a card reader. The rear panel includes two level USB ports and two combination eSATA/USB ports, a great touch for those who have quick access to more external storage devices do before USB 3.0 standard and a rare on any desktop computer to find.

There is a Gigabit Ethernet port and the classic pink and green microphone and Line Out jacks, although no analog or digital audio outputs for dedicated surround sound. Finally, we have for video VGA and HDMI. Although it is a little confusing is that Dell only mentioned 2.1/stereo audio output on its Web site, fear not, as this analogue only on the outputs and HDMI with full 5.1 surround sound.
When using the HD Zino sends an audible hum, but unobtrusive, and will feel warm but not hot. Overall, it makes for a great user experience. Its external power supply is large, but can be easily hidden, and we are happy, Dell has decided to go this way – as the power supply in the Zino itself would have led to an unfortunate increase in size to include.

Speaking of usability, including the wireless mouse and keyboard are surprisingly good. It is the same sentence, that Dell has been using its premium desktop machines bundling for a while and offers decent build quality and looks good. Makes both the mouse and keyboard to normal AA batteries are easy to use rechargeable ones run. The accompanying dongle is a bit on the large side compared to recent efforts by Microsoft and Logitech, but at least looks the part in semi-transparent black dress.
The keyboard has a clean and fairly standard layout when the Page Up/Down button cluster layout is changed slightly narrower than usual. Key feedback is soft but well defined, and the matte surround extends to provide a comfortable palm rest. A bright strip along the upper houses shortcuts on the left side and media controls on the right side, while the volume wheel is a stylish highlight.

On the other side of the mouse with both hands is as basic as it gets with only two buttons and a two-way scroll wheel. In terms of design it has a glossy finish sides and top, that attracts the usual blemishes. As for ergonomics, it is relatively comfortable, though nothing too clever. Its keys have a positive click and the rubber wheels provide feedback notched.
With the covered, it’s time to check that Zino HD internals. The focus of this machine beats an AMD Athlon X2 E-series low-power dual-core processor. Your choices are the 1.5GHz 3250E to our model or a slightly faster 1.8GHz 6850E, which limits a 80 upgrade found. Frankly, we do not believe the price difference is worth it because it takes little more expensive CPU that his budget does not siblings. It’s a pretty underpowered CPU or so, especially when the lowest model Athlon X2 used in the mesh compared Cute, but it is a sight more powerful than a dual-core Intel Atom as the Novatech Ion Fusion.

Zino as HD’s entire platform is based on AMD, it is not surprising that you get an integrated DirectX 10 ATI HD 3200 as the standard for video duties. This can be upgraded to a discrete HD 4330 mobile GPU with 512MB of dedicated memory. However this is still a relatively small increase in performance and is only up to casual gaming so again there is little reason to go for the upgrade. Our model has this last card, but so to give you an indication of the performance, in TrackMania Nations Forever managed a smooth 31fps at 1,366 x 768, although moving up to 1,920 x 1,200 us only 21.4fps.
Of course Blu-ray playback (using the included WinDVD BD with its Media Center integration) and other high-definition video was not a problem because the CPU load Zino HD kept well below 60 percent on average, so that there is sufficient scope for more background tasks. This is helped by a fairly generous provision of RAM, since even the lowest configuration of the Zino HD comes with 3 GB 800 MHz DDR2. As already mentioned, you can go all the way up to 8 GB, but it’s really very little reason to go beyond the 4 GB that came on our test machine.

It is certainly more than sufficient for the relatively tidy installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit happy. A unique feature of Dell installations is a Mac OS-like dock and taskbar, while not adding too can be very comfortable on the Windows experience at the event.
Hard drive space, now ranges from 500GB to 1TB demanding, the latter a not unreasonable extra money. It must be said that the 3.5″ drive is the loudest part of the system. In terms of extras there’s a wireless N card but Bluetooth is not invited to this party, and as for software, You can add Adobe Photoshop Elements concessions 8.

Finally, then, as this little box comes up to the competition? Let us first compare the mesh Cute. The Cute costs 345 for its base configuration, which will be a faster 3GHz Athlon X2 CPU and 4 GB of RAM compared to the 329 HD with Zino Athlon X2 1.5 GHz, 3 GB RAM, all other data gets similar. Between these two configurations there is very little choice for the intended market of the Zino offers sufficient processing power and is in every other respect, and quieter, smaller, better looking and better built superior. Cute, however, offers more flexibility. seems Unfortunately, as our contribution to mesh the discrete graphics card HD 4550 and Phenom Black Edition 3.1GHz CPU has fallen options that keep the net as a low-end gaming machine, but the company still offers a Blu-ray burner and digital Dual DVB-T tuner – neither of those options on the Zino HD.
With its 1.5-GHz CPU and 4 GB of RAM, a 1TB HDD, Blu-ray drive, Wireless-N will set you back about the Zino HD 570, and adding the same HD 4330 as the basis of our audit review model. From this amount you can get a pretty powerful full-size PC, such as the Hercules CyberPower i5, but you’re obviously paying a premium for low space requirement of the Zino’s.
A Mac mini is a clear alternative, but it lacks a Blu-ray option, and possibly much more for a similar specification about – but with a more powerful Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz processor.

Alternatively, if tiny, is what you’re after and you are on a tight budget, it is also worth considering the likes of Acer Aspire Revo. Although far less powerful, it is sufficient for most HD material (except for YouTube HD) running and with an external Blu-ray drive, plus playback software.
Conclusion
Although it is not just about the best value proposition, Dell Zino HD pretty much the ideal combination of size, performance and features for the perfect home theater or small desktop PC. As long as you are not interested in gaming and does not try a Mac mini, this is a very attractive!
