The Acer Aspire Predator AG5900, U3092, the company has retained the Predators orange on black, aesthetics, but Acer has re-interpreted them in a situation that, while still visually interesting, far more than traditional, and certainly less costly manufacturing. The result is a solid performance mainstream gaming rig, matched that with $ 1,349, the previous Predator in many of our tests. (We still wish it was a Blu-ray drive for the price, however.)
Features
The Predator AG5900 major installations include a big 1.5TB hard drive, should fast quad-core Core i7 870 CPU and a powerful Radeon HD 5850 graphics card, which is not quite the fastest ATI card available, players who play on hold LCD screens smaller than 30 inches very happy.

The Predator is equipped with 8 GB of DDR3 memory. While the wish is not as extreme as the 12GB in the previous model Predator we’ve looked at could make the most of the players, with 4 GB and probably not see much, if at all in performance. For most tasks, productivity is usually sufficient even 4GB.
Halving the amount of memory would be freed up some money to add a Blu-ray drive for HD movies. (This Predator is a standard feature DVD RW drive.) The drive, including distinguished in other respects, though. For one thing, it is certainly not open like a standard drive: If the eject button, two curved plastic arms are pushed open by pressing the drive. When open on both sides of the tablet, see the arms like nothing so much as a pair of mandibles insect. It’s an interesting aesthetic flourish, but we had another small-minded with the drive implementation: The case is hard plastic drive eject button was hard to press.

Move the front of the chassis sits a series of flash-card reader in the middle, above a flip-down door giving access to a pair of hard disk bays revealed. As at the last Gateway FX gaming platforms we have tested, let these bays you in exchange for extra hard drives more storage without opening the case. All you have to do: Turn you remove the system, one of the hard drive bays, snap a drive in, push the unit back on, turn the system on again, and format the hard drive. That’s the idea, in every case, but it should be noted that we are trying for the first time that one of the four pieces of metal that the drive holding fell out in her plastic cup, if we on the drive and tray slide into thing before. We were able to stay back and get the drive into the bay properly, but clearly the subjects could have been made to better standards. (They are poor is down a bit.)
With four USB 2.0 ports on the top of the housing and another eight laps, there are many connections for external expansion. But note that you will not find one of the faster variety of ports, like eSATA, FireWire or USB 3.0. Also this machine has only three analog audio jacks, so if you make a connection, a surround sound system do you have this on the HDMI or display port on the graphics card.

Inside, we have run across some room for expansion, including two empty hard drive bays, as well as empty PCI Express x1 and PCI slots (one each). All four memory slots are occupied, but we did not think that should be a great concern, as the 8 GB memory pre-installed, as mentioned above, is sufficient for almost everyone.
Performance
In view of its slate of components, led the Predator AG5900 very well in our tests, though a few surprises have emerged. In our suite of productivity tests, Predator AG5900 performed about in line with the far more expensive Predator G7750 and just ahead of the similarly equipped Gateway FX6803-25. The Gateway FX system sports the same graphics card as the Predator AG5900, but for about $ 100 more ($ 1,450 if this review in early November 2010 was written), she wore a Blu-ray drive and a design scheme that little less boldly’s (its red LED lights up despite).

In our CPU-centric Cinebench 10 test, all cores of the system CPU, a good idea of performance with multi-core enabled applications to taxes, the Predator AG5900 Core defeated i7-870 CPU, the other two systems easily, scoring 18 590 at the Gateway FX6803 is 17 180 and the more expensive Predator G7750 is 17 119. In our iTunes MP3 to AAC conversion test (which, like most mainstream software, taxes, only a single CPU core), converts the Predator AG5900 our 11 MP3 test tracks in 2 minutes and 40 seconds, the two other systems subjected to longer from 8 to 10 seconds to complete the same test. And measure in PCMark Vantage, a comprehensive suite of tests for the overall performance of the system, the Predator AG5900 again occurred when not much. The Predator AG5900 score of 8827 was connected with the Gateway FX6803′s adjusted 8252, and the Predator G7750 is 8228.
What this tells us: All three systems are fast productivity machines, which are biting in a similar manner. Whether you tied a video editing enthusiast or the whole day on Microsoft Office, one of these machines will get you through the productivity and the CPU-centric tasks without feeling sluggish.

When it comes to gaming performance goes, but the differences between these three machines more pronounced. While the Predator and AG5900 Gateway FX6803 both the ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card was, the more expensive Predator G7750 a more powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX had 470-card, which helped push it to the front of this pack. That is, unless you play your games on a massive 30-inch ($ 1,000-plus) LCD monitor, the three PCs is powerful enough for you, they can all today’s matches on screens up to handle up to 24 inches with ease. This Predator or the gateway but you may need to dial settings in detail below, especially in newer DirectX 11 (DX11) title.
In our test run Far Cry 2, under DirectX 10, it was the Predator AG5900 a respectable average frame rate of 65.2 frames per second (fps) at the 24-inch monitor resolution of 1,920 x 1, 200 The Gateway FX6803 was less than 1 fps behind, while the more expensive Predator G7750 dominates, churning out 92.2fps on the same test with the same resolution.

In our demanding sky DirectX 11 benchmark test, the Predator and AG5900 Gateway FX6803 again turned in an almost identical number of points at a resolution of 1,920 x1, 200 (22.5fps for the former, 22.1fps for the latter). The Predator G7750 better managed 28fps. Note that our Heaven benchmark was developed to today’s powerful graphics cards to the limit stress, such low frame rates, not necessarily a bad performance in latest DirectX 11 games.
As we release our latest real world gaming tests, with the title 2010 game Aliens vs. Predator Predator was able to AG5900, an average frame rate of 24.1fps at a resolution of 1,920 x 1, 200 with Texture Quality set to High (one step down from Very High) and all other settings maxed out. This tells us that with the latest games that take advantage of DirectX 11, you may need to dial down a few settings on this machine. If you (to handle demanding DX11 titles coming out in 2011 and also set with all the detail settings to their maximum levels) for a gaming machine, which means more work, then you should opt for a machine with a more powerful graphics card. Good candidates are the aforementioned Predator G7750, or the similarly priced Maingear F131, the two Nvidia DX11 graphics card for about $ 2,000 offers.

Conclusion
For the asking price of $ 1,350, the Acer Aspire Predator U3092 AG5900-solid performance gaming tower that mainstream gamers should still make happy productivity packaging much muscle. Nixing some of the RAM for a Blu-ray drive would have a smarter choice, in our opinion, but if you need Blu-ray playback in your gaming PC, you can always install your own drive, or opt for the Gateway FX6803, which offers up a Blu-ray reader, or similar, for only about $ 100 more.
