The eMachines EZ1601-01 is a 18-inch All-in-one nettop PC. Think of it as a more portable PC with a screen larger than 17-inch notebooks that cost twice as much. EZ1601-01 has enough processing power for light work (such as homework or in writing), a desk-friendly size, and it’s pretty cheap. It is a good choice for the student or writer who does not want the cost or bulk of a large-screen notebook, and does not mind, “plugged in” all the time.
Design
The EZ1601-01 belongs to a new culture of all get into one net-tops on the market. Apple always has the form factor lives in recent years with its more expensive (and capable) iMacs, but run of the mill users with modest needs and resources now have the choice of cheaper entry-level all-in-one desktops and notebooks. The EZ1601-01′s design is centered around the 18.5-inch screen, with a more aesthetic than other curved squared-off anyone who comes in. The system is wired with a fairly standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse, but it is at least one optical (I’ve dinged eMachines for the use of mice Ball in the past). The front of the system is sparse, with only a power button to let blacklit that this is not a flat-screen TV.

Features
The system has its USB ports, slots for media and DVD burner on the side bezel, easy to reach. The screen is decent, with 1366 x 768 resolution that is not true 1080p, but then again, you would not expect 1080p HD performance in such a cheap PC (for now).
As such, the system is very good for surfing the Web, and the screen is wide enough to see for most Web pages without horizontal scrolling too much. Web videos play seamlessly in standard format, HD video, but rather be a jerk. This is a common feature of nuclear-powered nettop. Other tasks are good, even with the supplied program Microsoft Works for word processing and spreadsheet easy editing. The system is 160 GB hard drive is enough to MP3 players like the iPod Touch, iPod Nano, Microsoft Zune, and iPhone support.
Performance
There are a few disadvantages of this system, however. Apart from the low-power processor (a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270), the system has not only 1 GB of expandable memory, which means that our 3D multimedia tests and tests such as PhotoShop and PCMark Vantage to provide them themselves means. The only test that is running Cinebench R10, and the back has only a low value of 846th Granted, this is above average for a nuclear-powered system, but you will not be editing photos or video transcoding on this system, if you have to wait a lot of time for things to end.
The system is inundated with bloatware (the thing pre-installed PC manufacturers to install on your system, but you never asked). It is the ubiquitous Microsoft Office 60-day trial and eBay shortcuts on the desktop. As already mentioned, the system has a copy of Microsoft Works (but it is the ad-supported version). I am prepared to allow to push the ads in Works, because the additional benefits of Works is enough to compensate. There is also a 60-day trial of Norton Internet Security, but I’d like at least 12-15 months to see that consumer PCs, not just two. What’s more confusing is that the system does not have a modem, but comes with at least two offers for dial-up services that you can not use (Earthlink and NetZero). The only logical explanation is that eMachines has set a blanket contract for these services on all systems, whether it makes sense or not.

The EZ1601-01 is a bit larger than competitors such as the Asus Eee Top 1602 and it has a DVD drive, the Asus lacks the 1602nd The Tangent Vita LT shares the eMachines’ 18.5-inch screen, screen resolution and DVD burner, but the Tangent LT significantly larger and more expensive $ 899. The MSI Wind and CS120 Polywell Poly ITX-9400B are also among the nettop competition, but they require external monitors.
If you compare the EZ1601-01 with other desktop systems at similar price points, but it is a somewhat different story. The EZ1601-01 desktop stablemate the EL1300G-01W and the budget PC Editors’ Choice Compaq Presario CQ5110f ultimately a better overall value because they are more capable, yet cost-effective. On the minus side, the EL1300G-01W and Compaq both require an external monitor. If you absolutely must save room (and money) as far as the eMachines EZ1601-01 one of the better net-tops are out. However, there is a better choice for the money if you can spare the desk space.
