Now the HTC Thunderbolt can be regarded as the most advanced device on Verizon’s network as a result of the incorporation of 4G LTE. But looking past the 4G radio in the phone, it is easily exposed as a blase handset. The specs within his nothing to squeak, but there is nothing on the Thunderbolt from other HTC Android phone with 2.2 UI Sense differentiate. It’s just more of the same.

The Thunderbolt was delayed for about one month, apparently due to concerns of terrible battery life while runningon 4G. And yes, battery life is not the best I’ve seen on an Android. Rated talk time was 6.3 hours, and we’re pretty sure this would be for 3G, in 3G, which was about the average battery life for me, but 4G drained the battery much faster. I’ve never made over 4.5 hours when running solely on the 4G signal.

The CPU of 1 GHz and 768 MB of RAM was enough to get everything running very smoothly and quickly, and the Sense interface enables the clean which means less bumps in the road to get over. The audio quality of calls was loud enough, but there was some vagueness in some of the conversations I’ve made.

But not even get me started on all the bloatware included with the Thunderbolt from the box. I stopped counting the number of apps on 40. This amount of pre-loaded software is ridiculous and gets in the way of having a true “open” Android experience.

General, the HTC Thunderbolt performs quite well. There is simply nothing that makes the phone stand apart and next to the 4G standard stereo underneath.

This means that you’re faced with a difficult decision: the cap of the extra money to pay a premium price for a new 4G smartphone, or wait a few months to see what comes out, what the prices will be new items, and if it worth the wait to have more options. Hopefully the price will come down with a number of other smartphones coming out at a lower price and LTE landscape becomes more competitive.

I do not envy the decision you’ll have to make. Just remember – you buy a top class standard Android phone that just so happens to LTE have thrown in the mix for good measure. Perfect phone? Nah, not even close. But if you have access to 4G as soon as possible need, I definitely recommend going with the Thunderbolt. It will get the job done well, and have some cool features to boot.
