ZR30w giant HP’s won us over with its 30in panel and a stunning picture quality, and now it’s up to his little brother, the 24in ZR24w. It takes less than one third of the price of 30in her brother, but still manages to pack in a resolution of 1920 x 1200, 16:10 ratio between S-IPS panel.
It is also well equipped. The wide base keeps it firmly to a desk, and fully adjustable stand increases, swivels and rotates. In addition, DVI, DisplayPort and D-SUB inputs accompanied by a four-port USB hub with two USB ports on the back and two more on the left side of the monitor.
Color accuracy is superb and no tweaking at all, our test photos and film clips were beautifully rendered. Avatar hard palette of blues and greens were displayed correctly, finding a good balance between neutrality and eye-popping vividness and no need to buy software.

The only weakness we observed was seen in the darker scenes: the gray blacks ZR24w and seemingly modest contrast ratio produced a less well defined, less spicy picture than some of its competitors.
Testing with our X-Rite colorimeter backup of our observations: a measure Delta E (a measure of color accuracy) of 1.1 and a maximum of 3.1 are simply astonishing. But all is not completely rosy, and the measured contrast ratio of 619:1 is the middle of the road.
The problem is that the default settings, measured black value of HP 0.53cd/m2 level remains fairly static when you adjust the brightness, so the contrast gets worse as the panel dimmer reduction. Increase the contrast to 90 helps immeasurably, though, to improve the black level considerably and keeping the brightness constant contrast ratio is reduced.
With 16:9 panels showing cheaper, the cost of 16:10, 1920 x 1200 resolution panel inevitably makes it look poor value compared to some of the competition 23IN. But if you crave the extra space on your desk and have the money, do not be discouraged: the HP ZR24w is a serious contender.
